The speaker that I admire

I admire Dr.Laura Schlessinger. She is a radio program host, and she also just does public speeches. She is so great at making simple, yet valuable points that can change one's thinking. I like that she speaks of family valuables and she bases her words on her life experience. I would say that her power to persuade comes from ethos and logos. When I listen to her I always admire what she says, because her words are so powerful. I don't consider that I am a very persuasive when I speak, and I always want to try to speak like Dr.Laura. When I say things, I feel like I don't have enough power in my words, and even though I try I still consider myself weak. Aristotle's classification scheme work for Dr.Laura, and she matches the classification.

To be an orator, an individual has to be morally good?

I don't think that it depends from it. I started to notice that to be a great orator is a gift, and some are very gifted with it. Yes, no doubt that a person who is willing to learn can become a very good orator. I cannot tell who is morally good or bad until an orator expresses their morality in their speech. Only then we can learn that, so speaking form my experience, I would have to say that, an individual doesn't have to be morally good, but it can drive the audience away if people do know that the person is immoral and leads an immoral life while trying to speak of moral choices. So in a way it is all tight in between, and I know some preachers who lost their reputation, because they spoke of good deeds and pure life, but at the same time they themselves lived immoral lives. If the audience is not aware of the personal choices of an orator and personal views they can speak of anything, and they can be really good at persuading people to make decisions according to their speech.

About myself

I have been taking classes at Sierra for a while now. Initially when I started I wanted to become a Nurse, but later I changed my major. Currently I am still deciding where to transfer after I complete my GED at Sierra. I am married and we have a beautiful little boy, who is almost 3. Ever since I had my son I have been taking online courses, because it is an opportunity for me to stay home with my son and also complete my degree. I enjoy learning from home, and wanted to encourage everyone who is taking an online class for the first time "You will do great!" The only advise I can give to my classmates is to create a schedule for themselves and stick to it. My first semester was very hard, because I could not find time to study, and now I know that I have to leave specific amount of time only for homework and studying. I am exited to take this class, because I lack in proper communication.. I have never taken a communication class, and I am looking forward to increasing my skills. I have been encouraged by my teachers in the past to take a communication class. I was born in Ukraine and came to live in US with my parents when I was 12, so I am still learning how to communicate properly. Good luck to all of us, and I hope I am posting this correctly, since this is my first time ever using/writing a blog!
